Nebraska Action for Healthy Kids is a public-private partnership of more than 30 organizations and government agencies with the goal of helping schools create environments for healthy eating, physical activity, and wellness.

Receiving Honorable Mention was Lawrence/Nelson Secondary for the utilization of grants from the Fuel Up To Play 60 and the Midwest Dairy Council for the purchase of a  fruit smoothie machine, P.E. equipment and funding  of a health and wellness fair that was held in March.

Sandy Creek Elementary at Sandy Creek received a Bronze Award for the implementation of the Cardio Club which gets kids up and moving everyday before school.  The activity also helps students to be more alert, focused and ready to learn.

Sandy Creek Elementary at Clay Center received a Silver Award for the Just Run Program. The after school running program is offered three day a week which includes a warm-up component, stretching, a 15-20 minute cardio session, a cool down and snack.   South Central Unified #5 aims to establish movement,  physical activity and healthy eating as a priority for all students.
